Alumni Stories: David Moore (OT ‘40)

David Moore left us at Tudor House in 1940 and went on to become Australia’s most renowned and widely travelled photojournalist.

From 1958, David Moore conducted photojournalist assignments around the world for Time-Life Books, National Geographic and corporate industrial clients.

Over a 60-year career, David Moore’s photographs have been published in many books and are in many Australian collections, including those of the Australian National Gallery. Collections are also held at the New York Museum of Modern Art, Le Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris and the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC.

David Moore has been the recipient of many awards including a Commonwealth Award for Service to Professional Photography (1979) and an Honorary Fellowship with the Australian Institute of Professional Photography (1989). In 2017, David was inducted into the Australian Media Hall of Fame in recognition of his outstanding contribution to Australian Journalism.

It was no doubt at Tudor House, that a young David Moore crossed paths with Michael White (OT 1936-1939) which in later years led to the above photograph.
