With more children now attending preschool and long day care with Early Childhood programs, parents are becoming increasingly aware of how a good program can set their child up for a successful transition into their formal schooling years.
While conventional Preschool helps children develop at their own pace in a more play-based setting, Pre-Kindergarten gives children exposure to a more structured school environment without losing sight of the benefits of play and inquiry in early child development.
The King’s School, Tudor House offers a five-day Pre-Kindergarten providing a ‘bridge’ from Pre-School to an ideal preparation for Kindergarten, the first formal year of school.
Located on 169 acres in the Southern Highlands of NSW, The King’s School, Tudor House is a haven for teaching and learning. Pre-Kindergarten students are provided with the space to grow through inquiry, exploration and discovery, within a supportive community which will provide every opportunity for students to flourish.
As an International Baccalaureate World School, Tudor House utilises the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) to guide their teaching curriculum. This framework for young learners aged between 3 and 12 years, focuses on immersing children in rich learning experiences, where skills are taught deliberately and inquiry is continually encouraged and promoted. Pre-Kindergarten students are nurtured to learn through inquiry and master their skills through play.
When a student arrives for Pre-Kindergarten at Tudor House, the School meets them where they are, ‘point in time’ on their own learning journey. They progress in an engaging learning program focusing on Phonological Awareness, English and Mathematics with specialist lessons in Music, French, Woodwork, Art, PE and Biblical Studies. With Pre-Kindergarten as a foundation, children develop, and in some cases, achieve and exceed, Early Stage 1 learning outcomes from the NSW syllabus. The Pre-Kindergarten students become confident in their own learning capabilities, ready to thrive.
The King’s School, Tudor House also offers an extensive co-curricular program. These activities enable students to build soft skills such as resilience, persistence and cooperation and work alongside the IB learner profile’s attributes. The Pre-Kindergarten students reinforce their learning to become inquirers, knowledgeable, thinkers, communicators, principled, open-minded, caring, risk-takers, balanced and reflective.
In the outdoor space Pre-Kindergarten children can explore new activities to help them develop as inquirers. They participate in the maintenance of the farm where they learn to grow and nurture vegetables, fruit and animals. They then proudly harvest produce which is used in the Dining Hall where Pre-Kindergarten sit down with other year groups for a freshly cooked hot lunch.
Pre-Kindergarten students join older students in play and in learning, a real point of difference from preschool. The Buddy system is very important for encouraging peer relationships which contributes to a positive experience at school. Our Buddies display the qualities of empathy, kindness and tolerance which are embedded into the Values of the School each day.
The King’s School, Tudor House welcomes boys and girls aged 4 years for Pre-Kindergarten. From 2021, Pre-Kindergarten will be a 5 day a week program.
