Kite Flying and Bonfire Fun

The week leading up to one of the community’s favourite events, The King’s School, Tudor House waited with slight apprehension, as they watched the cloud and rain symbols on their weather apps. Yet all ended well, as they were pleasantly surprised when greeted with nothing less than beautiful weather, perfect for kite flying and bonfire fun.

Last month, Tudor House hosted a fantastic event, a tradition, brought back by popular request, featuring an evening of kite flying and bonfires. Drawing in 300 students, families and friends from the Tudor House community, even pulling in fascinated motorists on the Illawarra Highway, guests gathered in friendship to enjoy family friendly fun.

Head of School, Anni Sandwell, said it was a magical experience, including some genuinely hilarious moments.

“One that comes to mind, was when the Boarding House giant black octopus kite plummeted to the ground, suddenly enveloping one of our dear little sisters – who fortunately agreed this was indeed funny!”

“Some students amazed us all and were so confident with their kite flying abilities, truly making the most of the ideal gentle breeze, even taking to lying down on the paddock to fly their kites.”

As dusk approached, the kite flying group moved towards the enormous bonfire for a sausage sizzle and toffee apples. The students also were enchanted with their glow sticks, perfect for the dark, while they roasted marshmallows on a smaller, less raging satellite fire on wire skewers, fashioned by ‘Opa’ Leimroth.

The community gathering, organised by the Tudor Rose Auxiliary, was a magnificent event that was not only an enjoyable evening for all, but also raised funds for the Tudor House Foundation, giving aid to current School projects. Two raffle prizes – a truck full of prime quality Tudor House firewood and a huge ‘treasure chest’ basket, full of wonderful gifts, all donated by the Year 3 and 4 parents, contributed to the successful fundraising evening.

The Tudor community looks forward to seeing everyone at next year’s Kite Flying and Bonfire event!
