Alumni Stories: David Marsh (OT ’62)

David Marsh shares a remarkable three generation connection to Tudor House. His father, W.B. Marsh, attended from 1924 to 1927. David himself was a student between 1959 and 1962 and continuing the legacy, his son Hugh Marsh enrolled from 1983 to 1985.

During David’s time at the School, E.L. Dixon was Headmaster and fostered a strong sense of community and tradition. One of David’s fondest memories is the Friday afternoon leather plaiting classes run by Mr Dixon, where students learned to craft kangaroo-hide belts, keychains, hatbands and other useful items. David has continued this craft throughout his life and still enjoys making belts as thoughtful gifts for friends.

Adding a unique dimension to his boarding experience, David’s father served as the School doctor during his years at Tudor. Although the family lived nearby in Bowral, David remained a boarder and would often see his father on medical rounds, which meant he never felt homesick.

David credits his balanced and happy childhood to his parents, both of whom were doctors, and to the strong, supportive family life he shared with his four sisters.

Reflecting on his time at the School, David says, “Those days in the magical world that is Tudor House are truly one of the most memorable times of my life!”

Now based in Boorowa, David recently returned to Tudor House to support the School’s commitment to improving its regenerative farming practices and continuing the Marsh family’s legacy of contribution and connection to the Tudor community.
