Enrichment gives individual care and attention

The academic needs of each boy are central to life at Tudor House. To assist meeting the need to provide the best opportunity for each boy, the Enrichment Centre was established in 1997.

The Enrichment Centre is responsible for the assessment of boys and in helping staff to provide appropriate strategies, small group instruction and/or intervention through outside agents.

From the regular assessments and referrals made by class or specialist teachers, boys are identified for extension work, remedial assistance or for a "boost", where a small problem is corrected thus keeping self esteem high.

The Centre is in very regular contact with the teaching staff so a partnership is formed to guide the boys' development. It is most important that boys are receiving a well planned educational program.

Parents must be part of this special program so regular meetings are held to inform and assist parents. Parents are part of the partnership with the teacher and the Enrichment Centre.

Programs through the Centre can be of varying length. The time set for the special program will depend upon the boy's needs; it could be for a week or as long as the time the boy is at the School. The partnership between home and school is vital.

The Centre is run by a teacher with Special Education qualifications. Other staff are employed through special grants for Literacy and Numeracy Support. Volunteer help to be "reader writers" or to listen to boys reading and spelling is sought from parents and friends of the school. Some volunteers assist with advanced Mathematics and English work, others in music and art areas.

Educational Forums are held from time to time to provide information and assistance to parents as they help their son's learning. The Centre is also used by some boys who independently call in for assistance or for a chat.

The Centre is in the middle of the school and is seen as vital to the academic progress of all boys.
